| Jul. 24th, 2008 07:53 am IDRS Today's the big day! Today PearTree premiers Marvin Carlton's Trio for Oboe, English horn and Bassoon.
I thought our practice on Tuesday was the best we've ever played the piece. We ran through it in the hall last night for a sound check, and it went pretty well, then, too, though I got off to a bit of a rocky start. Certainly this piece suits us very well, and our only anxiety is to do it justice.
They left several things out of the program that our English horn player had carefully provided: that it is a premiere performance; that the composer is in attendance; and that it has three movements. For some unknown reason, they included the tempo markings, but not the movements, so it reads:
Trio Grave - Allegro - Andante Larghetto - Allegretto
instead of
Trio I. Grave - Andante - Grave II. Larghetto - Allegretto - Larghetto III. Brightly
I've noticed many performers making remarks before they play, so I think I will go ahead and tell folks what was left out of the program, especially about there being 3 movements, so they'll know when to clap. That's important. Current Mood: excited
